Humans are social and are capable of rational reasoning. One month ago I quit consuming sugar after I had read an article about dangers of empty calories. Before that I have never even considered quitting my favourite daily meals cookies, chocolate and pastel de nata pastries. My change was triggered by one single article; rationality has directly affected my consumption choices.

Obviously, we can not make any meaningful deductions from only one sample. However, the US soda drinks market has been in decline for 20 years now. People are getting health conscious and are going back to coffee. But why people are making those decisions then? Has Coke lost its sweetness?

Re: aberrant salience meets rosser reeves uptown

Hello Mr. Pritchard,

Unfortunately, you completely misquote Rosser Reeves in your article. He was not engaged in purely attitudinal analysis. He was comparing attitudes and awareness with actual purchasing behavior. Have you actually read his book, or are you relying on second-hand information? If the former, it reminds me of what an American friend of mine told people when we studied at L'ESSEC, "I read French but I don't understand it."

Regards,

David

David A. The only way to test, I'd imagine, would be to test the salience points that the ad was meant to influence (eg see if the brand comes to mind when thinking of these salience points, regardless of whether you remember which brand that ad was for). The second aspect would probably be to check the likelihood of this salience point to trigger something at a moment of category consumption. But overall attribution seems to be less relevant than we originally thought, in great part because of what describes Les Binet in his article.

Re: the brains of millennials are (not) being rewired by the internet

I've been led to believe that Jung's theory is more along the lines of philosophical musing but I'm doing my best to learn ;)
Will check out your book recco.
Nice to hear from you E
